The AI Leverage Fallacy

The AI hype is real. But, you know what? AI is not a silver bullet. It’s one tool among many. Too many businesses are using it to automate low-priority work, then wonder why they aren’t seeing meaningful results.

Efficiency is worthless if you’re being efficient at the wrong things.

If your biggest constraints are poor strategy, fragmented data, broken workflows, slow decision-making, or a lack of customer demand, AI won’t fix them. It will simply help you get to the wrong outcome faster.

The companies creating the most value with AI don’t start by asking “what can we automate?” They start by asking:

  • What’s the biggest constraint to growth?
  • Which workflow creates the most value?
  • Where are people spending time on work that shouldn’t require human judgment?

AI is the last question, not the first.

Leverage comes from applying the right tool to the right problem, not from the tool itself. That’s why the first question shouldn’t be “where can we use AI?” It should be “what’s the highest-value problem we need to solve?”

AI is a tool. Leverage is a decision.

Bottom line: The biggest AI mistake isn’t choosing the wrong model or workflow. It’s solving the wrong problem.
