Last week I gave a social media workshop to two mexican companies. On the topic of blogging, a person from Business Development asked me about the name of my blog. Frankly, no one had ever asked me this question:
How did you come up with it and why did you choose it?
The word Game-Changer isn’t new. It is used widely in the world of innovation. When I began my blog, I wasn’t thinking about “innovation” per se. I was thinking about “difference making”. And that to me meant, and still means, doing what others are unwilling to do. Being unreasonable. All for the better.
While thinking about this, the word Game-Changer popped into my head. A Game-Changer is someone or something that alters the current state of being. Luckily I was able to find a domain name. I don’t remember ever writing about this, nor do I use “game-changer” loosely on this blog.
This got me thinking if anyone has written something about Game-Changer. I found a darn good article on Forbes written by Mike Myatt where he defines what a Game-Changer is:
Great leaders aren’t copycats – they abhor me too business methodologies. Leaders who pursue game changers have no patience for the status quo – they focus their efforts on shattering the status quo. Game changers refuse to allow their organizations to adopt conventional orthodoxy and bureaucracy – they challenge norms, break conventions, and they encourage diversity of thought. The message here is a simple one – don’t copy create. Where you can’t create, improve on, and innovate around best practices to find next practices.
For most people, blazing their own trails scares their pants off. For me its always been very simple: why do it the same way?
So that’s the story of my blog name, what’s yours?
