If you had to define innovation in one word, what would it be?

This is the eleventh of a series of weekly posts where I will answer a few common questions about innovation. Please feel free to add your own response. Also, if you have any questions you think we should discuss, let me know.

Here is a question for You. I’d love to know what you think: If you had to define innovation in one word, what would it be?

Not bad and nothing surprising. But I feel like something is missing here. How about the word “VALUE”. Ultimately, that is what innovation is about. No added value, beyond what currently exists, delivered to the customer/client; no innovation.

Or how about, “doing the right thing”. Too vague? Here’s another way to look at it: If you think something sucks, would you do something to fix it? If you think that some product isn’t doing its part to improve people’s lives, would you do something about it?

As I’ve argued before, you must come up with your own definition of innovation. And, you also must come to a collective understanding of what its purpose is. It with these types of questions were you must start to begin framing your unique point of view.

Put simply: Dare to look where no one does and question the unquestioned.

With that said, if you had define innovation in one word, what would it be?
